On April 22nd, local time, outside New York's Grand Central Terminal, tech enthusiasts from around the world formed a line hundreds of meters long to get their hands on the latest flagship panoramic camera, the Insta360 X5, launched by Shenzhen-based company Insta360. Although the event officially began at 9:00 AM, some fans started queuing as early as 3:00 AM to experience the device firsthand, creating a highly charged atmosphere.
Many global fans who couldn't attend expressed regret and eagerly inquired whether similar events would be held elsewhere, keen to experience the Insta360 X5 for themselves.
Sales data shows the Insta360 X5 topped single-product sales charts across multiple global platforms on its launch day. In China, it ranked first in camera and action camera sales on major e-commerce platforms such as Tmall, JD.com, and Douyin. Overseas, it secured the number one spot in single-product sales on Amazon in eight countries, including the United States and Japan. Leading US tech media outlet The Verge praised the Insta360 X5, stating it has virtually no rivals in the panoramic camera sector.
Industry insiders in cross-border e-commerce pointed out that despite ongoing uncertainties surrounding tariff issues, the performance of Chinese panoramic cameras has reached a level where they are a "must-buy" for American consumers. According to a report by Frost & Sullivan, Insta360 has ranked first in the global panoramic camera market share for six consecutive years, with its share expected to reach 81.7% in 2024.
The Insta360 X5 features 8K ultra-high-definition panoramic video recording, AI-powered automatic editor, cloud storage sharing, and VR viewing support. International users have been sharing creative content such as cycling and skiing videos under the hashtag #Insta360, helping the product transcend cultural barriers. Currently, Insta360's official accounts have amassed over 8 million followers across overseas social media platforms, showcasing the growing global popularity of Chinese tech brands.
